Heavily pregnant dog was almost out of time on the streets of TJ Mexico, but a tiny rescue group called TLC K9 Rescue stepped in to save her.

At first when they received a plea for help for a small dog laying in the middle of the street, they thought the dog was either extremely hurt or dead.

They wrote:
When I received a message about this poor dog my heart dropped I just couldn't leave her there alive or dead so of course I immediately agreed to take her under my wings.

It was perfect timing!! This little girl was alive, but filthy, lethargic, dehydrated, tick infested and shocked because she is heavily pregnant.

I named her Trina ❤️

She was transported to safety and then taken to a local vet for an exam, tests and bloodwork.

Even though her bloodwork is in normal range her Ehrlichia and anaplasmosis tests show a strong positive.

My concern is, infection during pregnancy may result in more severe disease.
Doxycycline should NOT be used in pregnant animals.  The SNAP test the vet used is a screening test.
Our vet needs to make a blood smear on a microscope slide and look for the definitive sign (an inclusion body) in a white blood cell (called a monocyte).
Second, a PCR test to check the platelet level.

If neither of these is a problem, we must wait until whelping to treat Trina with doxycycline.

If there are signs that Ehrlichia is a problem, I will ask the vet is we can start with Baytril which is safer for pregnant dogs.

Thankfully, there are no reports of any puppies infected trans placentally.

After 2 weeks in quarantine Trina, showed no symptoms and she was feeling much better.

I couldn't let Trina give birth in TJ Mexico, so I got her ready for a trip of a lifetime directly to me in Escondido Ca.

It's been 3 days and because Trina, is eating really good she has not only doubled in size, but now I see that her breasts are filling up with milk.

Trina, has a vet appointment today for a full exam, a PCR test, X-rays to see how far along she is and how many puppies we are expecting.
I don't know the breed of the father so I'm a little worried the babies could be too big for her to deliver. A C-section is a possibility.
